About Us

Located west of Seaford, about 6 miles out of town, on 5 peaceful acres not far from the banks of the Nanticoke River.  Excellent veterinary services during business hours, are less than one mile away with a brand new emergency facility available after hours.  We offer fresh air, clean, country air, sanitary conditions, and lots of love and attention for your best friend while you are away.

Kathy has over 20 years experience in training, temperament testing therapy dogs, and fostering dogs of all breeds and ages.  Her Black Labrador, Velvet, received special recognition from the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association for their work as a therapy team at Pier 94 in New York City, immediately after the 9/11 disaster.  Velvet was also was inducted into the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association's Hall of Fame - Therapy Dog Category, in 2005 and was the only dog to receive recognition twice from the NJVF for her service as a therapy dog.

Another familiar face at the farm is Gypsy Lee, a 13 year old Chocolate Labrador who greets each new visitor with a friendly wag of her tail.  As a demo dog for Mid-Jersey Companion Dog Training Club, and Canine Ambassador for the AKC, Gypsy visited local schools to teach children responsible dog ownership.  Gypsy joined the therapy group and made many visits to the Veterans' Home in Menlo Park, and now enjoys her golden years basking in the sunlight and chasing frogs.

Li'l Black Bear is another of the resident dogs at Briarhook Acres.  His friendly attitude and exuberance is apparent as one enters, greeting new visitors with lots of licks and kisses.  He relaxes in his puppy pool and when time permits, enjoys doing what a Lab should do - a long swim in the Nanticoke.  His special job is picking up shoes - he'll take them right off your feet for a doggie biscuit!

Our latest addition to our 'gang' is "Briarhook's Miracle of Mikayla".  Found in a dumpster at 1 day old, with no mother or siblings, it was doubtful that this Bottle Baby could survive.  Mikayla was adopted out through our rescue and returned to us 6 months later - fearful & frightened.  Through our dedicated efforts to rebuild her trust, she has become the most social of dogs, has attained her Canine Good Citizen certification and is working on her official AKC Rally Novice title, with ribbons awarded for two legs completed, and one more leg to go.   We believe that with constant positive reinforcement and lots of love, there is no limit to what this "Dumpster Dog" can do!

In conjunction with the Red Cross, Kathy has completed Animal CPR training and currently volunteers with Sussex County Animal Association as a foster Mom and Treasurer of the organization.  She is a canine evaluator for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen program.

After moving from New Jersey to Lower Delaware, Kathy's dream of providing a temporary home where dogs would be comfortable and secure has come to fruition with the opening of Briarhook Acres Boarding and Day Care in May, 2007.

Enjoy your trip through our web site and feel free to contact us with any questions at info@nobaddogs.com and be sure to visit our Briar Babies page to meet some of our recent foster pups!

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."...Irving Townsend

There are really 'No Bad Dogs' - they're just misunderstood!
